Lidè has had multiple opportunities to participate in relevant forums at the United Nations to share its work. This includes participating in UN Education Summits, the Commission on the Status of Women, the NGO Major Group, and more.
UNITED NATIONS TRANSFORMING EDUCATION SUMMIT 2022
Lidè joined TheirWorld in their “Let Me Learn” campaign in August 2022, which acknowledges the 260 million children not in school across the world and highlights the voices of young people calling for efforts to urgently ensure the education of each child. TheirWorld organized this campaign to share with global leaders as they prepared to gather at the United Nations Transforming Education Summit in New York in September 2o22. This included the showing at the Summit of a video made by a Lidè youth calling upon governments to ensure educational opportunities for all.
GIRLS PHOTOGRAPHY ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Girls learning photography at Lidè had their work exhibited at the United Nations, as a way of highlighting how the UN Sustainable Development Goals connect to their lives and to their hope for a better future. The barriers to education for girls and young women illustrate the interlinkages across the SDGs, as well as the necessity of working across sectors toward finding solutions within any one of the Goals. Clean water, green energy sources, health and hygiene, equitable jobs for families, infrastructure, safety, peace — these need to improve in order for access to education for girls to improve.
NGO MAJOR GROUP AND COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN
Lidè also has participated over the last few years in the NGO Major Group-a consortium of NGOs from across the world coming together in support of the Sustainable Development Goals. Lidè’s founding Executive Director participated in developing the NGO Major Group Position papers, which draw upon the experiences of diverse NGOs to make recommendations to advance progress on the Sustainable Development Goals.
In addition, Lidè staff have also participated and presented at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York.
