Our team fosters relationships, shared values and commitment among parents and community members towards Lidè’s vision of a “Haiti where every girl can play, create, learn, and lead”. Through promoting meaningful participation and collaboration of parents and community members in Lidè’s work, the social norms in the communities we serve are shifting, resulting in a growing number of individuals and institutions who shape girls’ well-being becoming champions of gender equality.
Our monthly meetings with parents deepen relationships among parents, between parents and Lidè staff, and among parents and their daughters. They also reinforce parental understanding of and commitment to gender equality, girls’ education and Lidè’s programs so they can encourage and support their daughters’ full participation. These spaces also allow for parents insights, suggestions, and concerns about their children, Lidè’s programs, and/or the community to be heard and incorporated. And, they increase parental commitment to volunteering and contributing to Lidè’s programs.
Our home visits support family unity by providing healthy discipline and conflict resolution strategies, increase parental commitment to supporting their daughter’s social and emotional resilience and to continuing their educational journeys. They also help identify strengths and challenges the family is facing, and connect them to relevant and beneficial programs.
Gatherings with principals of schools our participants attend educate school leaders about violence prevention, the value of the arts, and social and emotional learning activities. And, our participation in regional working groups for child protection and education, respectively, ensure we are contributing to the entire region where we work.
